Well, there's still plenty of available storage space on the 20, so hmmm, what other maps can I find. But I'm sure I was only sending one map at a time from MapInstall, so I guess they really were getting combined on the receiver itself. Add life and style with free watch faces, apps and more. With downloads from all your favorite app stores, there is something for everyone here including downloads for your smartwatch. That surprises me, as usually the default when writing a UNIX file is overwrite, not append. No matter what you need to bring Garmin to life on your connected device, we’ve got you covered. )Įdrick, I think you're right that the maps were being combined on the eTrex.

(Not so much here in the mudflats of my part of the Bay Area, but I'm heading up to the Gold Country to visit friends soon, and there's actual topography there. I like having the option of topo maps, but for the most part, I won't need them and they were just cluttering the screen.

And it's a lot easier for me to see my benchmark and geocache icons. Now it doesn't take the screen so long to refresh when I scroll, because the receiver isn't trying to deal with such a huge amount of data all at once.

When I do figure out a way to install them separately, do I do one, then rename it on the GPSr, then load the second one, etc.?Īllory, thank you, that worked great! I had read some similar instructions on the Colorado wiki but wasn't quite clear on them and also wasn't positive they were the right instructions for the eTrex. But the next time I looked, all three were there again, and under one name ("01470348, 03218770") in the Select Map screen.ĭo I need to go back to Map Manager and uninstall two of them there? Does MapInstall auotomatically grab everything that's currently installed in Map Manager despite my attempts to tell MapInstall to send only a specific map each time? MapInstall acted like it was sending two separate files different file sizes were indicated on the MapInstall screen, and they took very different amounts of time to download to the Garmin. I then selected the desired portion of the first one I wanted and sent it to the eTrex, repeating the process afterwards for the other one I wanted. I tried reloading the first two again, choosing the ones I didn't want from the pull-down menu in MapInstall and making sure that they were totally unselected (not dark blue). Sometimes I want the street (planimetric) map without the topographic information, but I can't enable it separately. They're all showing up on the GPSr, but I can't select them individually, so either they're all on or all off. MapManager copies maps and unlock codes into the right place to be accessible by MapInstall and Training.

I got them loaded onto my new eTrex 20 by first installing them in Map Manager, then using MapInstall to select my desired segments of each one and sending those to the Garmin). MapInstall and MapManager for the Mac software version 2.1.5 as of FebruNotes: MapInstall installs maps onto your Garmin USB GPS devices and SD card readers. * Trail map from my local open-space district
